FRIDAY 13th APRIL

Woke to the screech of corellas, thousands of them flying out of the bush along the river. Not a bad sound. No hurry today not far to travel so eggs and bacon for brekky by the river.
Heading along the Murray Valley Highway towards Echuca. Just near the little town of Strathmerton we came across "Cactus Country". A little unusual but amazing, about 3 acres of every type of cactus you could imagine.

Pretty arid land but a little bit of Mexico along the highway. Five paths to follow with cactus' from different parts of the world pretty hot walking around so finished with coffee and "cactus cake"which was very nice.

Like another planet!!

There was all sorts, not a lot in flower apparently October to November is best time.

Only a couple in flower.

Arrived in Echuca at lunchtime and wandered down to Port Area. Went on River cruise on the "Emmylou"paddle steamer. The engine running the boat had been restored and was built in 1906.
Beautiful weather and very pretty trip down the river.

"EMMYLOU" paddlesteamer

Enjoying the view and the motor.

That night we went on "Port After Dark" tour with Jenny our guide.
We had lanterns and she told us about the murders, ghosts and unexplained happenings that had happened over the years. She had "seen" the apparitions she told us!!!!!!!!!!Fun night and very interesting tales of the early days of Echuca.
